Payments Japan Association

Established in July 2018, Payments Japan is an industry-led initiative that aims to accelerate nation-wide adoption of digital payments, through promotion of national-scale, cross-industry collaboration. Payments Japan currently embraces 350+ members from both the supply and demand-side of the payments ecosystem, including banks, non-banks, IT vendors, FinTechs, telcos, retailers, food service providers, and manufacturers. Its efforts also involve industry bodies, academics, and national and local public authorities. Recent accomplishments include the publication of a national Payments Roadmap, as well as technical and operational guidelines to standardization of domestic code payment services. The Association also serves to execute subsidies pertaining to METI’s FY2019 program that aims to mitigate economic impact of the scheduled tax raise in October 2019, and to encourage use and acceptance of digital payments.
