Biography

Theodora (Theo) Lau is speaker, writer, and advisor, whose work seeks to spark innovation to improve consumer financial well-being and health. As founder of Unconventional Ventures, she focuses on developing and growing an ecosystem of financial institutions, corporates, entrepreneurs, and venture capitalists to better address the unmet needs of consumers (e.g. older adults / gig workers), with keen interests in women and minority founders. She co-hosts Rhetoriq, a podcast on longevity and fintech, and runs a weekly blog on Irish Tech News. She is a frequent contributing writer and speaker for top industry publications and conferences.

As more than 60% of Japan's financial wealth is being held by 60+ generation and as we enter an era of a 100 year life, financial well being of the elderly is of paramount importance, And today's elderly are becoming more tech savvy. This session will look at how the elderly can stay in control of their finances and how fintech can help. Whilst this theme is a particularly acute one for Japan, other countries both developed and developing are following the same path, which makes finances for elderly a promising area for fintechs.
